The technical workshop on Sustainable Diets in the Context of Sustainable Food Systems took place on 12–13 July 2017 at FAO headquarters in Rome. Organized by FAO, in collaboration with UNSCN (one of the precursors to UN-Nutrition) and UNEP, this workshop was a follow-up to the International Symposium on Sustainable Food Systems for Healthy Diets and Improved Nutrition (December 2016). It also contributes to Action Area 1 of the Work Programme of the UN Decade of Action on Nutrition (2016–2025), which focuses on Sustainable, resilient food systems for healthy diets.
This workshop examined potential contributions to enhance sustainable food systems and the enabling environments that promote healthy dietary practices. It fostered a better understanding of drivers of change and potential ways and means to improve current dietary patterns and food consumption trends towards more sustainable food systems for healthy diets.
