During Q4 of 2024, the Coalition of Action on Healthy Diets from Sustainable Food Systems for Children and All (HDSFS Coalition) actively engaged in several global fora, including the 52nd Session of the Committee on World Food Security (CFS 52), the Sixteenth meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (COP16) and the 29th Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29). Among the highlights:

  • The HDSFS Coalition co-organized with other partners a CFS 52 side event on Healthy diets, sustainable future; bridging nutrition, biodiversity and climate change policies. The event profiled good practices on: (1) how to integrate the conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity into national nutrition agendas, policies and programmes; and (2) how to promote environmentally-friendly, healthy diets within climate adaptation and mitigation plans, biodiversity strategies and health policies.  LEARN MORE
  • Many partners and countries from the HDSFS Coalition joined the discussions at COP16 in Cali, Colombia, where the biodiversity–climate–nutrition interface featured prominently on the agenda. This included the Food Day proceedings, held on 28 October 2024, which recognized biodiversity as one of the main foundations for food security and nutrition and how dietary diversification builds resilience and improves the health of agrifood systems.
  • In collaboration with the Nordic Council of Ministers, the SUN Movement, the UN Food Systems Coordination Hub, the UN-Nutrition Secretariat and WHO, the HDSFS Coalition organized a COP29 side event on Aligning Food Systems, Nutrition and Climate Action. The event explored progress at the crossroads of food systems, climate, health and nutrition and provided an opportunity for representatives from the HDSFS Coalition Steering Committee to present how and why global governance partnerships (e.g. the HDSFS Coalition and I-CAN) can play a key role in the transformation of food systems. LEARN MORE
